Limited opportunities?
[edit]"His educational opportunities having been limited by his bourgeois background, Havel first rose to prominence as a playwright." Being bourgeois would do the opposite of limiting ones educational opportunities. That line in the paragraph makes almost no sense. Perhaps being born just prior to WW II and growing up behind the Iron Curtain would limit your educational opportunities, but being upper middle class not so much. Are there citations for the three (limited education, being bourgeois, first rise to fame) claims here? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 97.99.219.60 (talk) 05:32, 6 October 2018 (UTC)
- Hi, I believe the sentence you cite (from the lede) is derived from the sourced info in the Early Life paragraph such as "For political reasons, he was not accepted into any post-secondary school with a humanities program"; the apprenticeship should have been connected to him being bourgeois as well. He was "limited" bcs of his background and the comaprison is made within Czechoslovakia, i.e. not everyone there "born juts prior to WW II and growing up behind the Iron Curtain" was "limited" as Havel was. If you have any other questions, ask. BTW it is always better to sign your contributions, and place them at the bottom of the page/appropriate paragraph.
